Shyann Jennings’ future in journalism was dimmed before it had the time to shine. After being fired for her fumble, she swallowed her pride and went back to the hometown she wanted to forget. She was determined to get out as soon as she could get on her own feet. But that plan changed when she meet an intriguing new comer.

Lucas was a talented artist, but a socially awkward man. He worked hard and kept to himself all the time. He refused to let anyone in due to his dark and dangerous past. It only a matter of time before it come barreling back and rob him of a possible normal future.

When I first came across this book, I was intrigued by the suspense element. It didn’t turn out the way I expected, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

I’m broken. Unstable. Dangerous.

Lucas was not your typical hero that made your heart beats faster. He was meek, polite and a recluse. I didn’t care about him but towards the end, he grew on me – and not just because of his dark side.

Shyann is the brightest thing I’ve seen in my life. She’s not mine, but God, I want her.

Shyann was complete opposite of him. She was assertive, opinionated and stubborn. Sometimes she came across as pushy, but I appreciate her strength and determination.

How quickly he swung from being almost mouselike to viper was scary.

This book is classified as romantic suspense, but even before reading it, just by simple observation the suspense element was already taken away from readers. Either it was deliberate or not, it took away the potential surprise. There was another aspect in the book that could have carried it, unfortunately the revelations were predictable and underwhelming.

I do like seeing how the relationship between the two characters evolved. It was nice to see their layers, especially his, getting peeled off to the core. This book is not dark but there were a couple of scenes that encroached the boundary.

Split is a story of a couple facing adversity and accepting who they truly are inside. It would appeal to readers looking for something a little bit more than romance.
