Bookish Talk

My thoughts on everything bookish.

Best Books of 2020

The year 2020 has been a difficult one for many, and it affected my reading too. Every single year in the past, I always ended up adding more books to my Goodreads challenge. This year, however, I barely made it with my original goal of 110.

I’m satisfied with my non Romance reading however, this year significantly lacked YA Fantasy reading for me. I’m hoping to remedy that in 2021. My ratings are also lower this year. It just seems harder for me to be impressed. Anyway, below are my Goodreads stats.

For my full reading list, check out my Goodreads 2020 Year is Books. Here is the recap of the monthly Top Pick winners. Also, be sure to check out the special awards below it.

Favorite Arts of 2020

This year I’ve read a lot less than the previous year, which means my teaser count is also down. I have made 106 teasers (so far) in 2020. I have not exactly been inspired much this year especially with the lack of time to look for base images and to do some fancier editing. I’m hoping to be able to be more inspired next year and maybe learn some new things.

Below are some of my favorite teasers  I made for the year. Click image to see original source. For full list of teasers check out my Teasers 2020 album on Pinterest.

As for my bookstagram, I am happy with it. But I missed doing challenges. I only got to do very few of them this year. One new thing I tried this year is adding scribble to my photo. I thought it was fun and cute. Hopefully, I’ll do more of those next year. But it’s not something that would fit any type of photo so we’ll see lol!

🗨️ Book Musings: Cult

Do you follow authors beyond their books?

The book world is not much different from the entertainment world. Authors can reach a cult following just like celebrities. Personally, I don’t idolize people including authors. I know a lot of readers do and that’s perfectly normal. But some might be a little too much.

There’s this one author who is one of my favorites. But when it comes to her fans, their level of fanaticism is the kind that would make people back away slowly. The way they worship her is downright disturbing. They will listen to everything she said. If she wears a certain thing, they will all wear the same thing. If she‘s into a certain hobby, they will all end up taking it on too.

As far as I’m aware, the author uses her influence in a good way. But just imagine the kind of damage this type of following could do if misused – which already happened in the past with authors taking fans money by faking illness, or leading a mob lynching on reviewers or other authors.

It’s fine to care about your favorite authors for more than their books. Just as far as you know where to draw the line.

🗨️ Book Musings: Mission Failed

Today I realized I made an epic mistake. I haven’t updated my blog review list since October 2019 😳.

I’m not sure how that happened because I’m pretty sure I updated it somewhere within this year. But I have two backups with date updated, and those files do not lie lol! I know I always find an excuse to delay doing it because it’s such a tedious task, but usually, I don’t go past 6 months, so not quite sure how this happened. I suppose, maybe one day I was going to do it but then distracted and never did, but in my mind, I thought it did? 😆

Oh well, it’s done now. Updated to the last review I posted today. Good thing I’m in between books, so I had some time to fix this. It’s HERE if you want to check it out.
