Nine months ago, Sara Adams awoke with no memory. The man holding her hand told her she’s a member of The Light, a tight-knit religious group led by the terrifying and charismatic Father Gabriel. As a woman in the community of The Light, her duty is to be unquestionably obedient and to submit to the will of her husband.
But as Sara’s memory starts to return and she remembers her past, she sees that everything she’s been told is a lie. The Light is an insidious and dangerous organization, and its corrupting influence reaches well beyond the confines of the remote campus where Sara is being held.
With everything at stake, Sara struggles to sort out her true memories from her indoctrination. The desire to escape consumes her, but who can she trust? And which other followers of The Light were forced into this life, brainwashed to believe they belonged? The more she remembers, the more it becomes clear that Jacob, the man who calls himself her husband, is keeping shattering secrets of his own.
But Sara cannot flee alone, leaving innocents behind. She must fight to extinguish The Light.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
After nine months of being under control of the religious cult, The Light, Sara Adams’ repressed memories started to come back to her. With the memories came questions that might better left unanswered. Alone with no one to trust, including her own husband Jacob, she must deduce and decide the course of actions in liberating the truth.
As I did I realized what I’d probably already known— I’d already trusted Jacob with everything: my mind, body, and life.
Sara went through a lot both as member of The Light and as her true self. I love seeing the dilemma of her battling her two competing sides.
I didn’t deserve her, and she didn’t deserve this.
I like how Jacob took a lot of risks on what he believed in. He had a good balance in using both his head and heart in accomplishing what he set out for.
I love the suspense elements in this book. There were a lot of heart thumping excitement and I love all the cliffy chapters that lured me to keep reading.
However, I am not fond of the ending. It just didn’t feel put together as well as what had been happening earlier. I didn’t mind the direction it went. I just needed it to have more impact.
Away From The Dark is a story of a woman claiming back the life taken from her. I would appeal to fans of elaborately plotted suspense.
